John Senior Trophy success again!
Thank you to all those who came along last night to enjoy the Angus Cup and John Senior Trophy, despite awful weather and traffic problems. There is no question that the standard of photography on display was top drawer, and both competitions were closely fought. Brechin came SO close to winning both, but fell short by a single point to Mearns in the Angus Cup (digital).
The John Senior Trophy (prints) was a different matter, with a brilliant score of 126 from a possible 140 enough to beat Mearns and retain the trophy. A 20 for Andy Hayes's 'Learning to Hunt' started the evening off brilliantly, and 19's for Dennis Forman and Beryl Woodger for 'Blue Tit' and 'Pasque Flower', and an 18 for Ian Hastie's 'Whitethroat' set us up for a deserved win.
Learning to Hunt by Andy Hayes (20/20)
Blue Tit by Dennis Forman (19/20)
Pasque Flower by Beryl Woodger (19/20)
Whitethroat by Ian Hastie (18/20)
In the Angus Cup, we were leading after the first few rounds, with a 20 for James Anderson's 'Red Grouse in Flight', and 18s for Ian Hastie's 'Five Star Dining' and my 'Deil's Heid', but 16s in the last four rounds left us a single point behind Mearns, who scored 121/140. The fact than all 14 of our images scored 16 or above is an achievement itself, considering the standard across the 70 images on show.
Red Grouse in Flight by James Anderson (20/20)
Five Star Dining by Ian Hastie (18/20)
The Deil's Heid by Ben Freeman (18/20)
Both 'best images' of the night were won by members of Mearns Camera Club, with Sarah Woodfin and Lynn Stout taking home the awards.
Ultimately, a terrific result for our little club, up against some tough opposition, and yet room for improvement for next season! A big thank you again for the great support last night.
