The Blue Door club outing - Sunday 28th October

This Sunday (28th) we have our first outing of the season, to the Blue Door in Edzell. We've been here before as a club, but not for a few seasons, and it's always a lot of fun in the autumn.

Rocks of Solitude

If you've not been before, the Blue Door is located around a mile North of the village of Edzell, immediately across a road bridge over the River North Esk. There are about 6 parking spaces right by the bridge, but if these are full take the next left towards Glen Esk and there is additional space. Car sharing is obviously encouraged as always.

The whole walk is around 3 miles, but there is no need to do the full circuit. The first part of the walk is along the top of a deep gorge, within woodland that will hopefully be awash with autumn colours and photograph opportunities. As the land levels out towards the Rocks of Solitude, there are great opportunities for shots of the river, including slow shutter speed images, so remember your tripod and filters if you want to do some of this.

There is also Doulie Tower, a ruinous 18th century folly within the woodland, which offers another photo opportunity.

We will meet at the blue door at 12 noon, and as always there will be members there to offer constructive advice and help with techniques where possible. With some nice weather though, it is just a really nice place to go for a walk! There's always a good chance of some squirrels, and salmon leaping up the falls, for the wildlife enthusiasts among us.

Look forward to seeing as many members as possible.
