96th Scottish International Salon of Photography
Entries are open for the 2019 Scottish international Salon of Photography. As always, we would encourage members to have a go.
The competition is open to photographers worldwide, with six categories - Mono, Colour and Nature, both print and digital. Entrants can submit up to 4 images in each category - so a maximum of 24 images. There are wildlife prizes within the nature section, but these must conform to the strict wildlife image rules, which can be found on the Salon website.
Entering as a club means the cost to members is reduced, so instead of having a minimum entry fee of £12, you only pay per image - £1.20, so if you want to dip your toe in the water so to speak with one or two images, it's not an expensive exercise.
Prints are preferably unmounted (I recommend printing in the centre of A3 paper), but mounted prints will be accepted this year. Prints/mounts cannot exceed 500mm x 400mm as per club competitions.
Similarly, digital images should be sized to 1600 x 1200 pixels, and 300ppi, as per club competitions.
"Between Two Worlds" by Hayley-Jane Stanley was awarded an Honourable Mention in the Colour Print category in 2018.
Entries are judged by a panel of judges, and around 25% of the entries are 'accepted' and go on to form part of the exhibition, which will be in Kirkcaldy. Hayley and I attended last year and it was well worth the visit. It's quite a buzz to have your images accepted at this highest standard of photography competition, but to win a medal or gain an honourable mention is quite an achievement.
The deadline for entries is the 4th April, but in order to get prints to Dumfries, I will need them considerably sooner than that - no later than the 19th March. This allows time to complete the online entry and get the prints to the collection point in time.
This still gives you all 4 weeks to consider having a go. As I said, even if you just want to submit one or two digital images, please don't be hesitant.
